blog.cyclosity.com: Street seen – cyclists blocked from connecting to North Avenue

You mean we were supposed to be cutting through the parking lot? Man, all this time I've been waiting for a cop to chase me down there. Is there anything linkable about this being an intended bicycle throughway?

Yep, it's official. I'll see if I can find something that shows it's intended to be used by cyclists.

I'm not sure it's the GREATEST idea, since it puts cyclists on the sidewalk on North Avenue to cut through the pedestrian median cut to continue down Guiliford. Same if you're going North.

I think we can do better, but in a city that has done so little for it's cyclists for so long (don't mean to sound bratty), I think this is a fair path to get downtown.

Google maps even shows it as a street/alley now, even though you can't cut through it on a motor vehicle at all.

There's even an outdated sign that says pedestrians and motorcycles are not supposed to pass through or even enter the lot.

My bedroom window looks out onto Guilford at Mount Royal. For the past several months, I've noticed a substantial increase in cycling up and down Guilford. In years past, I never saw bicycles using Guilford. Recently, at any given time, I can usually see at least one bicycle crossing the bridge. It was actually working. What the heck is going on with whoever replaced that arm?

I saw this today. Bikers can get around this by going on the sidewalk, but that creates an uncomfortable situation for pedestrians.

I've gone this way for a long time, but I'm curious to know what you mean by "meant to be a connecting route" - does this route have some sort of official sanction? That would be a big help in getting normality restored.

    Hey -

Technically this is and will be part of an expanded and more bike friendly Guilliford Avenue north-south route. The city intentionally shortened the drop-arm previously but today it was fully out and blocking people.

Should have an update on this within the week.

If it wasn't in a parking lot for a police precinct, I might be inclined to agree with you.

There's a lot of cops there, but I'm pretty sure that's the school system HQ.

It's, at least in part, the Baltimore City Board of Ed; but obviously there is some sort of police command there as well.

City school police command is there?
